A First Course in Mathmatical Modeling, 5th Edition

by Frank R.Giordano

This book gives a brief overview of the field of mathematical modeling, covering topics from modeling using graphs, optimization modeling, to discrete modeling. It also gives a thorough introduction to modeling with calculus, and no calculus knowledge is required. For all chapters, it not only teaches you the techniques of modeling, but also gives you an explanation that leads to the conclusion.

Recommended for those who might not have a strong math background but are motivated and willing to put in time.

MCM/ICM 2013 Problem Analysis, 5th Edition

by Wang Jie and Dr. Jay Belanger

This book contains two parts, one in Simplified Chinese and the other in English. It provides thorough analysis and winning papers on MCM/ICM problems in 2013, The Ultimate Brownie Pan, Water, Water, Everywhere, and Network Modeling of Earth's Health.

Recommended for those who already have a solid background with math modeling and wish to view specific types of problems. (Calculus knowledge suggested)

Mathematical Modeling for the MCM/ICM Contests, Volume 1

by Wang Jie, Amanda Beecher, and Dr. Jay Belanger

This book is all in English. It provides thorough analysis and winning papers on MCM/ICM problems in 2014, The Keep-Right-Except-To-Pass Rule, College Coaching Legends, and Using Networks to Measure Influence and Impact.

Recommended for those who already have a solid background with math modeling and wish to view specific types of problems. (Calculus knowledge suggested)

Write Right for the American Mathematical Contest in Modeling

by Wang Jie and Dr. Jay Belanger

This book contains two parts, one in Simplified Chinese and the other in English. Using MCM/ICM's judging standard, it discusses how to write strong papers, what judges wish to see, and how to write effectively for judges to grasp the main points in a short time. Additionally, it also introduces several math editing software such as Latex and MathType.

Recommended for those who have strong mathematical background and seek to further improve the quality of their papers.
